WIPO will assess applications and select a limited number of eligible candidates for the training program. A limited number of scholarships are available for applicants from least developed countries, developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The training program is a way to ensure that communities can record their cultural heritage without ceding authority over the use of the recordings. WIPO guides communities and institutions on how to establish, identify and manage IP rights, including how to manage information about each recording, rights holder s and any usage rules, including rules derived from customary laws and practices. During the mentoring and matchmaking phase, participants are expected to implement the intellectual property components of their projects and businesses. As needed, WIPO facilitates additional assistance through its Program Partners who bring deep and valuable experiences to the table.
