Windows live the microsoft account is incorrect please try again

I have one email address that I only use for my old jewelry business and rarely checked it in a while. But then when I hopped over to the Hotmail site to log in and proceed with the password reset, Hotmail gave me an error every time I attempted to log into the account. I was using all the correct credentials and I even tried to reset the password on my Hotmail account but this also gave me an error message stating that the account was incorrect.

This account was never really used as I said I only used it with my jewelry business so it has been a good two years. Online chat just gave me a link for re identifying my account and password reset. When I informed her that neither worked she got frazzled and terminated the chat.

I tried to set up a new email via MSN. I need help as I am applying for a job and the original password for this service expired so it sent a email link to my old msn. So anyone got any idea on what is going on here? Or has anyone else experienced the same problems with disused accounts disappearing? By the way this Hotmail account ended in " msn.
