Deborah Saucier plans to speak to the importance of post-secondary education in creating economic and social equality particularly during this time of disruption. The exchange itself is far more powerful than the confines of the project. Within my first week at the Bamfield Marine Science Center I was amazed to have the opportunity to observe humpback whales and orcas breeching, as well as the glow of the bioluminescent ocean.
My Killam Fellowship was a life changing experience that has led me to purse a career in Marine Biology. The CCA Killam Program is the only national-scale Program in that it invites nominations for Canadian citizens from any research organization within Canada or abroad.
The Killam Prizes are awarded to active Canadian scholars who have distinguished themselves through sustained research excellence, making a significant impact in their respective fields in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, and engineering. The Killam Research Fellowships provide support to scholars of exceptional ability by granting them time to pursue research projects of broad significance and widespread interest within the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering or studies linking any of these disciplines.

Non-paid interruptions of awards for up to 12 months will be permitted for an approved leave of absence from the graduate program for which funding was received. You may not interrupt an award in order to take up another award or to pursue studies other than those for which you have received funding.
Effective May 1, , predoctoral Killam scholars Master's and Doctoral can apply for paid parental leave benefits. These benefits are intended to support those students who do not have access to other paid parental leave supports through tri-agency research or scholarship funding. A Killam Predoctoral scholarship may be interrupted for a period of up to 12 months for parental leave. The stipend amount will be reduced by funding received from other sources e.
Interruptions for this purpose must be taken within six months following the birth or adoption of the child. Award holders may request a parental leave for every occasion of birth or adoption that occurs during the tenure of their award.
Multiple births or adoptions upon the same occasion for example, twins or sibling adoptions do not increase the duration or value of the leave. If both parents hold Killam funding, they must share the paid leave for a cumulative maximum of 12 months.
Applications will be automatically directed to departmental judges as they are submitted.
